International salons of photography are competitions where photographers of any level from amateur to fully professional are invited to submit images in various categories. All come under the patronage of the Photographic Society of America or the International Federation of the Photographic Arts – in most cases both. There are other organizations such as the Global Photographic Union, but the PSA and the FIAP (based in France) are the main two. Each organization offers awards at various levels depending on the number of salon acceptances achieved. In June 2018, I received my first full award from the Photographic Society of America. The process has started (December 2018) for another award – this time with the FIAP. As the procedure is very different to the that of the PSA, it will be a while before I know the result of my application.
